SF Language Services (SFLS) was established in 2002 with a mission to combine language instruction, cultural mentoring and bilingual support services to individuals and families relocating to the United States. We are a small women and minority owned business. The company has grown steadily over the past 5 years and we now have offices in California and Texas. We believe that language learning should be an enjoyable and exciting adventure as well as a means of personal and professional development.
A Brazilian native and a creative entrepreneur, Egladir Xavier has over twenty years’ experience in the field of education with a focus on international language services and cultural diversity. She is a long time advocate for people challenged by language barriers and related sociocultural issues. Her personal experience immigrating to the United States as a non-English influences our personalized approach and our intercultural awareness.
Emy Tomita is the Language Program Coordinator for Texas. She began working for SFLS in 2007, teaching and assisting with destination services, the process of helping new Chevron expatriate employees and families settle in to life in the USA. Emy was born in Brazil and earned a degree in Bilingual Education from the University of Houston after coming to the U.S. as an exchange student in 2001. Emy personally understands the cultural and language challenges of adjusting to a foreign country.
Mari Torres is a Language Program Coordinator for California and Texas. She comes to SF Language Services with a 5 year background in teaching English and Spanish language learners. Mari earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish from Sam Houston State University. While completing her degree, she traveled to Mexico and European countries studying their literature, language, art and culture.
Meghan Hokom is the Business Development Manager. She joined the SF Language Team in July after completing a Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in Education Policy from Texas A&M University. After receiving Bachelors in Social Work from Texas State University, she worked with children and families in need. Meghan has also taught Special Education students in both Florida and Texas. Meghan enjoys traveling to visit her family in Canada, Europe, and Australia. She married into a family of expatriates and has a son with dual citizenships.
